PrecisionFix HVAC Repair Service travels from our Palo Alto base into San Mateo County, about 12 miles away, to diagnose and repair furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, and ductwork. Whether your home is near the Bay in Foster City or up in the hills of Woodside or La Honda, we come to you and explain what we find in plain terms. We fix the problem before suggesting anything bigger.

Communities We Serve in San Mateo County

We work in homes across the county, including East Palo Alto, Atherton, Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks, Redwood City, Woodside, Emerald Lake Hills, Portola Valley, San Carlos, Belmont, Foster City, La Honda, Highlands, San Mateo, Hillsborough, Loma Mar, Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, and El Granada.

Bayside neighborhoods, hillside homes, and coastside towns put different demands on heating and cooling equipment. Before we recommend a fix, we look at how you actually use your system.

Common Repairs We Handle

Most calls start with something simple, such as a room that won't warm up, a strange noise, or a system that won't turn on. These are the problems we see most often:

  • Furnaces that won't ignite, short-cycle, or blow cold air
  • Heat pumps that ice up, run nonstop, or lose heating capacity
  • Air conditioners that stop cooling, leak water, or trip breakers
  • Thermostat, wiring, and control faults
  • Noisy blowers, failed motors, and worn capacitors
  • Leaky or disconnected ducts that leave rooms uneven

Repair or Replace? What the Bay Area Rules Mean

Bay Area Air District appliance rules do not require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. If your furnace can be repaired safely, keeping it running is a reasonable choice.

Under Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when they replace a furnace after that date. The zero-NOx date for small water heaters under Rule 9-6 was set for 2027. The Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it, so check the current rule before planning a water heater replacement.

Incentives and Tax Credits

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for new installations after that date.

San Mateo County homeowners can still check BayREN and their local clean energy provider for heat pump and electrification incentives. Amounts and availability change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before we mention it in a quote.

No. The rules don't require replacing working equipment. They apply only when a furnace or water heater fails or is replaced.
