About us
Practical HVAC Service for the Mid-Peninsula
PrecisionFix HVAC Repair Service works on heating and cooling systems in homes across Palo Alto and the surrounding Peninsula and South Bay. Our climate is mild most of the year, with dry summers and cool, damp winters, so many homes run their systems less often than homes in other parts of the country. That means problems can go unnoticed until the first hot week or the first cold night. We handle repairs, replacements, and routine maintenance for furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless mini-splits. We also offer duct cleaning and indoor air quality work. On every visit, we start by finding out what is actually wrong. We explain your options in plain terms, including whether a repair makes more sense than a replacement. If you are considering new equipment, we also walk you through how current Bay Area Air District rules may affect your choices. You make the decision, and then we do the work and clean up afterward.
More about how we workWhat to expect
How a visit goes
-
A clear diagnosis first
We find the cause of the problem before recommending anything. We show you what we found and explain what it means for your system.
-
Options, not pressure
When a repair is reasonable, we say so. When replacement is worth considering, we explain why and what your choices are, including heat pumps and ductless systems.
-
Respect for your home
We protect floors and work areas, keep you updated as the job moves along, and leave the space clean when we are done.
Service areas
Where we work
We serve homeowners throughout Palo Alto and nearby cities on the Peninsula and in the South Bay. Summer temperatures vary across the area. Homes farther inland and to the south of the valley usually run hotter than homes near the Bay, which affects how hard cooling equipment has to work. Find your city below.
Do you offer emergency HVAC service?
Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency service for situations like a furnace that stops working on a cold night or an air conditioner that fails during a heat spell.
Do Bay Area air quality rules mean I have to replace my working gas furnace?
No. The Bay Area Air District appliance rules do not require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace fails or is replaced.
What changes for gas furnaces in 2029?
Under Bay Area Air District Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, this points homeowners toward heat pumps when a furnace is replaced after that date. If your furnace is aging, it is worth thinking about your options before it fails.
Can I still get a federal tax credit for a new heat pump?
The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for new installations after that date.
Are there local incentives for heat pumps?
Bay Area homeowners can check BayREN and their local clean energy provider for current heat pump and electrification incentives. Amounts and availability change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before including it in any quote.
Should I repair or replace my system?
It depends on the system's age and condition, what failed, and how often it has needed repairs. We explain what we find and lay out both paths so you can decide what makes sense for your home.
How often should my HVAC system be maintained?
Many homeowners schedule a visit before the cooling season and another before the heating season. Because our mild climate means systems may sit unused for long stretches, a check before heavy use can catch problems early.
Is a ductless mini-split a good fit for my home?
Ductless mini-splits work well in homes without existing ductwork, in additions and converted spaces, and in rooms that stay too warm or too cool. We can look at your home and talk through whether one makes sense.
